An alternative first leg for the Transat Classique
"A strange wind pushed me toward the eighth wonder of the world," wrote French painter Paul Signac when he settled in Saint-Tropez in 1892.
Saint-Tropez, with its impressive medieval citadel and old fishing quarter dating from the turn of the 20th century (it was also the first town to be liberated in the Provence Landings), has developed into the Mediterranean hub of the classic yachting world.
Every year Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez attracts the famous names of inshore racing, while the Trophée du Bailli de Suffren does the same for the offshore racing fraternity.
Following in the wake of these great events, and with the support of the Société Nautique, the Transat Classique 2012 has chosen Saint-Tropez for the starting point of its Mediterranean leg.
